TDr. Esterbrooks with fellowshe Creighton University Clinical Cardiovascular Fellowship program has produced outstanding cardiologists since 1962. An interventional cardiology fellowship was added in 2005.

Our fellows work in an environment dedicated to providing the knowledge, skills, clinical judgment, attitude and values necessary to be exceptional cardiologists.

More than 150 fellows have been trained by Creighton cardiology faculty, and are practicing across the United States. Many of our current faculty cardiologists have had a portion if not all of their education at Creighton, including undergraduate, medical school, residency and fellowship. It is this constancy which has resulted in the dedicated academic culture that exists today.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Creighton University Cardiology Fellowship Programs is to produce physicians embodying the Ignatian value of "Cura Personalis" who aspire to become transformative leaders in their practice, institution and community by emphasizing clinical and scholastic excellence, patient-centered care, life-long learning, and wholesome development of the Individual.

Program Aims

To train cardiology fellows with excellent clinical skills who can provide the highest quality cardiovascular care to patients across the region with a focus on clinical excellence, patient safety, and delivering evidence-based medicine in a cost-effective manner. Our goal is to recruit and retain at least 50% of our trainees who will practice in the Midwest. To produce cardiologists who embody the Ignatian value of “Cura personalis” in both the learning and clinical practice environment and emphasize the importance of context and care for the whole person. To produce cardiologists who value scholarship and research as a tool to enable them to engage in life-long practice-based learning, critical review and application of new scientific knowledge to their patients and to guide future generations as teachers. We want 75% of our graduates to graduate with at least one scholarly publication.
