Internal Medicine Education & Research

Dear Applicant:

I want to thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine training program at Creighton University Medical Center. This website describes our philosophy for your post graduate education and the structure and the content of the curriculum.  I hope you find it helpful and informative. You will find that the faculty are very dedicated to fulfilling our mission of excellent patient care, education and research.

I am  especially proud of our residents. They are certainly the face of our program. They join us as inexperienced, anxious house officers, but leave as confident, competent and caring physicians. Our preliminary residents receive a solid foundation of Internal Medicine that serves them well in their chosen fields. Their rotations and experiences are the same as those for the categorical residents. Our categorical residents participate in a well rounded curriculum in general Internal Medicine and in sub-specialties with an excellent balance of inpatient and ambulatory experiences. They also participate in our very popular simulation curriculum as part of their ambulatory rotation. They assume responsibilities of patients under the supervision of senior residents and faculty who are experts in their fields.

The culture of our program is one of cooperation and collaboration. You will get to interact professionally and socially with fellow house officers and faculty through softball and cricket games as well as social events such as Halloween parties. We also include your families and significant others as part our "team" and value the importance of balancing your professional and personal life.

Many of our residents continue their education in fellowships either here or at other prestigious institutions throughout the country. Others pursue opportunities to join our faculty, become hospitalists or practice in the private community. Our recent affiliation agreement with our hospital partner has resulted in upgrades in patient rooms, increased support for additional faculty recruitment and increased emphasis on primary care.

Service to others, the importance of family life, the inalienable worth of each individual and appreciation of ethnic and cultural diversity are core values of Creighton. Our faculty members conduct research to enhance teaching, to contribute to the betterment of society and to discover new knowledge.

I invite you to explore the rest of our website. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the next exciting phase of your professional career.

Sincerely Yours,

John Hurley, M.D.
