Program Evaluation Synopsis

Program Evaluation at Creighton University School of Medicine is performed within the Office of Medical Education, supervised by the Director of Medical Education Development and Assessment.

Program Evaluation

    The Office of Medical Education is responsible for program evaluation within the School of Medicine. The Office develops and manages the system by which students evaluate all their courses and clerkships, including construction of assessment tools; collection, analysis, and management of student evaluation data; and preparation and distribution of results to the Educational Policy Committee (EPC), the Medical Education Management Team (MEMT), course and clerkship directors and faculty, and department chairs.

    The Office conducts special program evaluation studies in collaboration with the EPC, MEMT, department chairs, and other administrative leaders.
    

    The Director of Medical Education Development and Assessment chairs the Evaluation Committee, the EPC’s principal source of evaluative data. The Chair of the Evaluation Committee is responsible for all the steps involved in preparing evaluation reports - collection and organization of data, directing Evaluation Committee meetings, and writing Evaluation Committee reports.

Evaluation of Medical Student Performance

    The Office of Medical Education assists faculty in improving evaluation of student performance by consulting on the development of objective tests (e.g., multiple choice examinations) and the assessment of student clinical performance. The Office works with faculty and assists various work groups to improve curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation. The Office assists faculty in their scholarly work related to education by consulting on grant proposals, research design and statistical analysis,
    the preparation of presentations at regional and national meetings, and the writing of manuscripts for publication.
