Chairman's Statement
Welcome to the Creighton University’s Department of Anesthesiology’s website. Our department has members who possess knowledge, skill, and confidence to get the work done. We have 13 anesthesiologists and 14 certified registered nurse anesthetists. We provide anesthesia for many surgical procedures including cardiac, pulmonary, esophageal, urologic, robotic, bariatric, neurosurgical, and others. There is a busy obstetrical service, and we provide anesthesia for labor, delivery, and C-Sections; one of our anesthesiologists, Dr. McGonigal, took a fellowship in obstetrical anesthesia. We have a significant number of complicated pregnancy cases, and we are available for these patients.
Chronic pain therapy is part of our mission. Dr. Rick Bose has recently joined Dr. Fred Youngblood. They do both injections and medical management of pain. Jessica Johnson, Nurse Practitioner, adds immeasurably to the efficiency of the area and to patient satisfaction.
We are involved with the teaching mission of the university. Each month we have 4 senior medical students, M4’s, rotate on our service. They learn the basics of preoperative evaluations, airway management, and anesthesia techniques. We offer clinical opportunities for student nurse anesthetists from 3 programs in the area. We help the community by teaching airway management techniques to paramedics and flight nurses.
