The department of Biomedical Sciences was formed in 1988 by amalgamation of the departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology, under the chairmanship of Dr. Richard F. (Barry) Murphy. The department provides education and opportunity for research in the sciences basic to medicine. Faculty teach Gross Anatomy, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology and Physiology to students of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Allied Health and Nursing and the College of Arts and Science. Training in research and advanced clinical anatomy is given in the graduate programs. Dr. John (Jack) Yee was appointed chairman in 2009.
The offices and laboratories of the faculty are in the Criss Complex of Buildings. The administrative office is in room 313 of Criss II.
