The Research

Pathophysiology of Allergy and Bronchial Asthma

Role of Inflammatory cells and mediators in bronchial asthma; mechanisms underlying beta-adrenoceptor desensitization in chronic asthma; effect of second-generation anti-histamines (non-sedative) in bronchial asthma; Th1 and Th2 cells, mycobacterial antigens, Flt3-L and other immunomodulators in asthma; dendritic cells and T cells interaction and immune tolerance; Ion channels in eosinophils and monocytes.

Mechanisms underlying Intimal Hyperplasia, Restenosis, and Plaque Stability

Cell adhesion molecules and leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction; Role of polypeptide hormones and IGF-1; Apoptosis; Involvement of protein kinase C, tyrosine kinases, mitogen-activated protein kinases; Transcription and translation of cell adhesion molecules in the vessels; Comparative effect of various intravascular stents on the development of restenosis in central and peripheral arteries; Methods to prevent restenosis by coating the stents with polymer-based drugs, and by local drug delivery; Ion channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, human blood monocytes, and epithelial cells; Inflammation in spinal cord injury and role of bradykinin receptor antagonists.
