Third Year Medical Student Clerkship -Obstetrics and Gynecology

During your eight‑week clerkship you will be exposed to normal and high-risk obstetrics, as well as office and surgical gynecology. Conferences have been designed to build upon the core lectures you received during your second year.  Attend the conferences, read, go to the delivery and operating rooms, and above all else, ASK QUESTIONS!

You will be expected to read Obstetrics and Gynecology by Beckman et al during this clerkship.

Half of the eight‑week clerkship you will spend at Creighton University Medical Center and the other half at Bergan Mercy Medical Center or Phoenix Integrated Health System.  The curriculum is designed to acquaint you with all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology in private and institutional medicine.

All of the students get a variety of experience in outpatient and inpatient clinics and surgical patient care in both obstetrics and gynecology. The students also attend rounds, Colposcopy Clinic, Complicated OB Conference, Grand Rounds, and faculty lectures, as well as take call and present one gynecologic topic and one obstetric topic during their clerkship.

Dr. Smith schedules an individual mid-term evaluation session with each medical student and provides a review of the mid-term evaluation in writing. Student feedback is very important and is reviewed each clerkship. We strive to provide an exceptional learning experience in our department; therefore, many of the adjustments made to our clerkship have resulted from suggestions or comments made by the medical students.

A shelf exam is administered at the end of the clerkship.

Please contact Linda Everidge with any questions regarding your medical student experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
