Internship: Charity Hospital of New Orleans 1974-75 Abbreviated Biography: A graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine, Dr. Fitzgibbons served his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and a surgical fellowship at the Lahey Clinic in Boston where he received specialized training in surgery of the liver, pancreas, breast and thyroid. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Surgery at Creighton University. His curriculum vitae includes over 150 citations for original articles, books, book chapters and published video tapes. He has served as course director for numerous laparoscopic surgery programs and is a commonly invited lecturer at many world-wide laparoscopic conferences. He is on the editorial board of several laparoscopic journals. The recipient of impressive research grants, his projects include laboratory research on the effect of laparoscopic surgery on hormones which are important in the development of an ileus. His clinical research deals with laparoscopic herniorrhaphy as he is the principle investigator on a recently funded NIH R01 grant. His clinical interests also include alternatives to laparoscopic common bile duct exploration for choledocholithiasis and surgical implications for hereditary cancer. | |
