R. Armour Forse, MD, PhD

Dr. Forse offers consultations for patients in need of gastrointestinal surgery, including minimally invasive procedures and bariatric surgery. His research interests are nutritional support, immunological and metabolic response to injury, the treatment of sepsis and the biology and treatment of morbid obesity.

Dr. Forse serves on the editorial boards of Obesity Surgery and is an associate editor of Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, the two leading journals on Bariatric Surgery. He is a prolific researcher and has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications, books and book chapters. His research interests include nutritional support, immunological and metabolic response to injury, the treatment of sepsis and the biology and surgical treatment of morbid obesity.

Previously, Dr.Forse was assistant Professor of Surgery at McGill University. And then associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School where he co-founded and directed the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery and directed the Clowes Laboratory of Surgical Metabolism. He was the Lazlo N. Tauber Professor and Vice-Chairman of Surgery at Boston University before joining Creighton University. The former Chairman of Surgery, Dr. Forse is now the Lempka Professor of Surgery and Associate Chair of Surgical Education with the Department of Surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine. His current focus is Bariatric Surgery and research. He has performed more than 1,000 bariatric surgeries including gastric bypass, gastroplasty, gastric banding, and biliary pancreatic diversions. He has been the director of Bariatric Surgical programs at McGill University, Harvard Medical School, and Boston University.
