Floyd C. Knoop, Ph.D., Component I Director at Creighton University School of Medicine, recently received an Alumni Citation for Academic Excellence Award from The Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio during alumni week on October 9.  He also presented a seminar entitled “Thoughts and Insights of Medical Education: The Last 100 Years.”

After graduating from Defiance College in 1966, Knoop completed an M.S. degree at the University of Dayton, a top-tier national, private university and, like Creighton, one of the 10 best Catholic universities in the nation.  In 1974 he completed a Ph.D. degree at the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) in Memphis, Tennessee.  Following a postdoctoral position at UTMC he was recruited to join the faculty of Creighton University School of Medicine as an assistant professor and member of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology.

Dr. Knoop is currently a full professor of medical microbiology and immunology and as Component I Director oversees the academic curriculum for the first year of medical school at Creighton.  He is a recipient of an Award of Appreciation from The YWCA Omaha Women Against Violence Program, serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Medical Science Educators and is Associate Editor of the Journal of the International Association of Medical Science Educators.  In addition, Dr. Knoop is a member of numerous organizations, including the American Society for Microbiology, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, New York Academy of Sciences and Association of American Medical Colleges.
