The Creighton University School of Medicine Class of 2009 was hooded on Thursday, May 14, and will graduate on Saturday, May 16.
This class of 127 students is the largest graduating class ever for the School of Medicine. They were selected from 4,962 applicants and came from 32 different states.
Thirty-one students received their undergraduate degrees from Creighton University with the remaining students representing an additional 66 undergraduate institutions.
Of these 127 students, 15 have been inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for their excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service. Twenty-one have been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for their extraordinary academic performance. In addition, seven students were inducted into both of these honor societies.
These Creighton University School of Medicine graduates will be pursuing a variety of residency training positions including Internal Medicine (34), Pediatrics (17), General Surgery (13), Family Medicine (11), Anesthesiology (10), Obstetrics and Gynecology (10), Emergency Medicine (8), Orthopedic Surgery (5), Pathology (5), and Diagnostic Radiology (5). The remaining students will enter residencies in combined Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine, Neurological Surgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Psychiatry, and Urology.
The 2009 graduates matched into prestigious programs such as Mayo, Northwestern, Dartmouth, Duke, Mt. Sinai, Thomas Jefferson, Barnes-Jewish, Washington University, the University Chicago, Baylor, Stanford, and others. Eleven graduates will stay at Creighton-affiliated programs.
The faculty and staff of the Creighton University School of Medicine are proud of the 2009 graduates and wish them much success!
