The School of Medicine formally welcomed 127 new students into their first year of medical school on Friday, August 14th in a White Coat Ceremony held at 2:00 p.m. in the Harper Center Ballroom on the campus of Creighton University. The ceremony is a culmination of three days of orientation for the new students. Faculty and families attended the event to celebrate the class’s entrance into the study of medicine. Dr. Rowen K. Zetterman, Dean of the School of Medicine, issued a charge to the matriculants and then recited the Student Physician’s Oath with them. The white coat becomes a daily reminder of the Oath to give their lives and talents to the service of humanity. Each student was presented with a white coat, symbolic of the medical profession, along with a specially designed lapel pin contributed by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. The Gold Foundation advances humanism in medicine, perpetuating the tradition of the caring doctor. Creighton University School of Medicine appreciates the support provided by the Gold Foundation, as we also seek to train physicians who are exceptionally compassionate and scientifically excellent.
