Syed Mohiuddin, M.D., received Creighton University's 2012 Martin Luther King Drum Major Award at a Jan. 18 luncheon. The award is presented to an individual who serves as an advocate for social justice and brings the community together by promoting collaboration among diverse groups.
Through Omaha's Tri-Faith Initiative, Dr. Mohiuddin has played a vital role in plans to construct a synagogue, a mosque and a church alongside one another, along with a fourth interfaith structure. The project has gained national and international attention.
Dr. Mohiuddin also has worked to introduce programs and services to reduce cardiovascular disease among Omaha's African American population.
