About Dr. Kovilam:
Oormila Padikkal Kovilam, MD, works as the director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Alegent Creighton Health. She is a maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist and is board certified in both maternal-fetal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Kovilam also serves as an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Creighton University School of Medicine.
Before coming to Creighton, Dr. Kovilam spent several years consulting at Comprehensive Women's Health Care in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, and prior to that for the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C. In 1997, she joined the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine for the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati as an assistant professor. While there until 2008, Dr. Kovilam became an associate professor and the Director of two programs: Medical Complications in Pregnancy and Diabetes in Pregnancy, in 2003.
Dr. Kovilam completed her maternal-fetal medicine fellowship in 1997 at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She also completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency in 1995 at Providence Hospital & Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In 1992, she completed an internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Services/Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Elmhurst, New York. Prior to that, Dr. Kovilam spent a year as a research fellow for the departments of obstetrics/gynecology and pathology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Kovilam graduated with a bachelor of medicine and surgery degree in 1981, and her M.D., D.G.O. (Diploma in Gynecology & Obstetrics) degrees in 1984 from Kasturba Medical College in S. Karnataka, India. Until 1989 in India, she had an academic and clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology, which also included six months of training in the cardiology and critical care unit. Dr. Kovilam served as an assistant professor from 1986 to 1989 at Kasturba Medical College Hospital.
