Creighton participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). AMCAS is a centralized, web-based application service that allows applicants to complete and submit one primary application to multiple schools.
Submission of AMCAS Application: November 1
Submission of Transcripts to AMCAS: November 15
Applicants who do not meet the above deadlines will not be considered for admission into the Fall M1 class. Please apply as early as possible.
AMCAS forwards all verified applications to the medical schools applicants designate. All applicants who submit a verified AMCAS application to Creighton, and have an MCAT of 498 or higher, will be invited (by email) to complete the Creighton Secondary Application Process.
The process begins July 1 and includes submission of the following:
- Secondary application form
- Letters of recommendation
- $95 non-refundable* application fee
- Recent digital photograph
*Fee waivers may be granted to applicants who participate in the AAMC Fee Assistance Program (FAP). To qualify for the secondary application fee waiver, please do not submit your AMCAS until you have been approved for FAP. Creighton will not grant secondary application fee waivers to applicants who apply for FAP after submitting their AMCAS.
Note: Creighton does not pre-screen for secondary invitations. Applicants are encouraged to review the admissions pages to ascertain their competitiveness for admission to Creighton.
An application is complete after the following credentials have been submitted:
- Verified AMCAS
- MCAT scores
- Oldest considered: January 2019
- Latest considered: September 2021
- Secondary application
- Letters of recommendation
- Application fee
When all required credentials have been received, the Office of Medical Admissions will notify you by email. However, we cannot assume responsibility for notifying applicants of missing credentials. If you do not receive a confirmation email after submitting all credentials, please contact the Office of Medical Admissions to determine your application status. All application credentials must be received by January 15.
You may use your discretion when selecting letter-writers. A committee letter is preferred (if available), but not required. We prefer letters from individuals who can honestly and accurately attest to your performance, character, personal qualities, and aptitudes from direct knowledge, interactions, and observations. We suggest you provide us with two science faculty letters and one non-science faculty letter, but leave it up to you to determine who are the ideal persons to help us assess your candidacy for medical school.
Applicants should submit at least 3 letters, but not more than 6.
Recommendations must be submitted to the Office of Medical Admissions through the AMCAS Letter Service by January 15.
Creighton University School of Medicine requires a background check for all students to enhance the health and safety of patients, students, faculty and staff, to adhere to applicable healthcare regulations and to attest to students’ background and eligibility status for affiliated clinical facilities and licensure entities. The background check determines whether there are incidents in an applicant’s history that would pose a risk to others or prohibit the individual from being licensed in the future.
If you have been convicted of or pled no contest to a felony and/or misdemeanor, please list them on the supplementary application form. You may also provide explanations for any entries.
When your file is complete, you will be notified by email. If you haven’t received a completion notification within 30 days of submitting the required credentials, please contact the Office of Medical Admissions at medadmissions [at] creighton [dot] edu.
The committee cannot consider your file until it’s complete. Files must be completed by January 15 to ensure further consideration. Since the Office of Medical Admissions reviews applications on a rolling basis, applicants are encouraged to apply as early in the cycle as possible.
Interviews will be conducted virtually for the 2022 Admissions Cycle. Accepted students will also be invited to visit campus during one of our multiple in-person admitted student days.
Interviews are held from September through March. Applicants selected to interview will be notified via email. Details about the interview will be provided in the email.
Creighton hosts “open” interviews, which allow evaluators to review each applicant’s total file: AMCAS, secondary application, letters of recommendation, etc.
Creighton communicates with applicants primarily through email. This includes communications about missing information, interview invitations and confirmations.
Check your email often and notify both Creighton and AMCAS if your email address changes. Many applicants who report problems receiving Creighton email communications use clients such as Hotmail and Yahoo! that intercept our communications in their spam folders. It’s important to check your email and determine if you can override the spam filters and authorize all email communications from “creighton.edu.” If you cannot override the filter, we encourage you to regularly review your spam folder.
The Committee on Admissions notifies applicants of their admissions decision by mail. This includes:
- Addition to the alternate pool*
Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. Applicants who complete the application process early have a better chance of receiving both an interview and acceptance into Creighton University.
*The alternate pool is a pool of unranked applicants. Applicants in the alternate pool will be reviewed for acceptance after the April 30 deposit deadline.
All accepted applicants must arrange for an official transcript from each post-secondary institution previously and/or currently attended to arrive at the Office of Medical Admissions no later than July 15 of the matriculating year. Transcripts should be mailed to:
Office of Medical Admissions
Creighton University School of Medicine
Criss II, Room 102
2500 California Plaza
Omaha, NE 68178-0408
Please note: Transcripts sent to AMCAS at the beginning of the application process do not fulfill this requirement.
If you have earned a degree from an institution, the transcript must reflect that status. If you are currently enrolled in an academic program, please submit a transcript to the Office of Medical Admissions after your final grades/degree are posted, but no later than July 15.
If transcripts are not received by July 15 and you have not contacted the Office of Medical Admissions to obtain an extension, we reserve the right to withdraw your acceptance and award your seat to an alternate.
If you are currently enrolled in a degree-granting program, you must complete that degree prior to matriculation at Creighton University School of Medicine. This includes all students enrolled in one of the following programs:
- Bachelor’s Program
- Master’s Program
- Ph.D. Program
- Certificate Program
Please review the Creighton University School of Medicine Medical Education Program Technical Standards Policy, and consult the Office of Medical Admissions if you have questions. When answering the supplemental application question that alludes to “reasonable accommodations,” do not disclose any request for accommodations at this time. Requests for accommodations can be made after acceptance.
If you answer that you cannot complete the curriculum, this effectively withdraws your application. If you have questions about these standards, please contact the Office of Medical Admissions.
The safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff are primary considerations at Creighton University. The Creighton University Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is published in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and Violence Against Women Act. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes and fires, as well as institutional policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, fire safety, crime reporting, and other matters. This legislation seeks to make college campuses safer through the disclosure of such information, and to assist applicants in making enrollment or employment decisions based upon that criteria.
You may download a copy of this report by accessing the following website: Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. You may also obtain a free paper copy of the report at the Public Safety office at 2222 Burt Street, Omaha, NE 68178, or by contacting Public Safety at 402.280.2104.
