School of Medicine Faculty Awards – Fall 2018
Four School of Medicine faculty members were honored during the fall faculty meeting on Oct. 23 at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy. These awardees are nominated and selected by faculty.
The following is a transcript of the awards ceremony presentation.
Laura Hansen, PhD
Distinguished Research Career Award
During her career on the faculty at Creighton, Hansen has made significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of our understanding of mechanisms of skin cancer development and progression, while exemplifying the finest qualities of leadership in research at Creighton and beyond. She is a productive investigator with an international reputation and has published in some of the most prestigious journals in her field. She is highly regarded by her colleagues for her innovative and in-depth research focus and for her collegial approach to science. Because of her significant contribution to research, teaching and services the School of Medicine honored Laura Hansen with the Distinguished Research Career Award.
Kenneth Kramer, PhD
Dedicated Teacher Award and Course/Clerkship Director Award
Since his arrival at Creighton, Kramer has excelled in the classroom and students have ranked him among their best teachers. The breadth and depth of his teaching responsibilities are truly impressive, and he contributes greatly to the educational mission of the School of Medicine. Therefore, based on his consistent, sustained and outstanding record of teaching, and his dedication and commitment to excellence, the faculty of the School of Medicine hereby award Kramer with the Dedicated Teacher and the Course/Clerkship Director teaching awards.
Venkata Andukuri, MD
Graduate Medical Education Teaching Award
Andukuri has built an outstanding curriculum for residents and has imparted patient safety training to learners as an Internal Medicine core faculty member and is a physician champion for Graduate Medical Education in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. Therefore, based on Andukuri’s commitment to excellence in education it is our honor to present Andukuri the Graduate Medical Education Teaching Award.
Thomas Quinn, PhD
Distinguished Service Award
Quinn is an outstanding leader, mentor, teacher and colleague and he is truly beloved by his students. Quinn has received the Golden Apple award six times and has been nominated for this award 14 times. In his role as assistant dean for medical school admissions he has interviewed and selected countless medical students for our School. Quinn is a prolific and widely respected scholar with over 78 book chapters, 11 books and numerous peer reviewed papers and abstracts.
In addition, the following Golden Apple Award recipients were acknowledged. Each medical student class nominates and selects a faculty member who has made a strong impact upon their education that year. The third- and fourth-year classes also each nominate and select a resident who has been an excellent teacher from both the Omaha and Phoenix campuses.
The awards are given by the students during the annual Golden Apple Awards Banquet in Phoenix and Omaha in the spring.
